“Memories of Sunday Morning” by Calgary-based contemporary artist, Elena Myasnikova

This was created with a touch of figurative approach. Although flowers on the painting are not forced to look and feel by the viewer as flowers, the composition was created with faded flowers in mind. Elena: “While dusting one of the books on a long-forgotten shelf, dried faded petals fell down from within the pages. It made me feel nostalgic and this mood is represented in this work as it intends to evoke slight melancholy feelings.”

“Memories of Sunday Morning” is part of Elena Myasnikova’s Winter series, “Melancholic notes” (2018/2019). This series was inspired by her personal life changes, while driven by nostalgic emotions and rather forlorn feelings. Palettes and composition choices were affected directly by her state of mind and personal experiences. Works in this period of time are noticeably lighter and softer in colours.

Elena used multiple layering techniques in order to create deep hue and light effects. The artwork is heavy due to multiple layers of resin in the finish.

Gallery wrapped and wired on the back, this work does not require framing and is ready to hang.
