“The Get Together” by Vancouver artist, Pepe Hidalgo
Pepe Hidalgo about “The Get Together”: “This work is about meeting with good friends; sharing ideas, tapas and good conservation.”
Inspiration and process
Pepe’s inspiration occurs in many ways. Reading a book can induce an image with enough force to be represented. An injustice, an act, a vision of real life that is impregnated in his mind or such a natural act as a walk taking a few breaths or the smell of wet earth can be a source of inspiration. The pictorial process is arduous and laborious because it is generally about shaping an idea and image that is in his head that emerged from inspiration. It is a continuous search, in giving shape, volume, color, and perspective, to the image retained in his mind, using many glazes and changes, until it approaches that image. Hidalgo uses glazes and changes the images frequently so acrylic is the most appropriate medium for his work.
“The Get Together” is gallery-wrapped, with the sides painted. It is ready to hang and does not require framing.
