Impressionist (UK)

Impressionist artist, Julie Edwards (Lancashire, 1970) is based in the UK, where has been working from her studio at Eagle Works Studios and Gallery since 1998. In 2020 this iconic artist building closed, and Julie currently works from her own studio space.

Unlike so many of her contemporaries, Julie has been working on her art steadily since 1998. Progressing from large semi-abstract paintings that often took on an aerial view of both the industrial and natural landscape, towards a more sophisticated and personalized, semi-representational format.

Julie introduces herself as a semi-abstract landscape artist whose artwork is very much influenced by the natural world around her; places she visited and experienced become images in her mind and inspiration for a new painting.

I do not endeavor to portray a realistic painting of the landscape but aim to show the relationships and interactions of human beings within it. This includes recordings of the marks made by the force and flow of elements, and traces left behind on the earth’s surface; by the weather, animal, plant life, geographical events, or by man and his interventions.
